Extra Care Housing

Extra Care housing promotes independent living and provides persons over the age of 55 with their own home in a communal development. There are often onsite facilities such as hairdressers, hobbies and activity rooms and even a bistro that is open to the public. Some schemes also offer a day service provision and all schemes actively promote social inclusion amongst the residents and the local community.

Within all Extra Care Housing schemes is a care team who are onsite at all times. The care team provides care to those that need it and also provides an emergency response to all residents who may use the pull cords which are situated in each apartment and can be used to alert staff during times of emergency.

Extra Care housing developments can consist of one and two bedroom apartments, which are available for rent, shared ownership or purchase.

To be considered for Extra Care housing, rental applicants should be over 55 years old, have a local connection to Newcastle under Lyme and have less than £60,000 in total capital and assets.  All applications will be considered and discussed by an Allocations Panel and may be subject to a care assessment and landlord’s reference. All applicants will be subject to a financial assessment to determine affordability to ensure that residents can afford any service charge imposed by the Landlord and any care or emergency response charges enforced by the Local Authority.
